Most of us grew up with a certain image of the traditional novel ‘Journey to the West’ imprinted in our minds.
It is the first thing to come to mind, despite there being many remakes of the well-liked show.
There was an uproar on the Internet recently, when the teaser for the newest Korean remake was released. Named “A Korean Odyssey”, the show is set to air its first episode on Dec 23 in Korea and will subsequently air every Saturday and Sunday.
Mind you, the storyline is in no way similar to the original.
Cha Seung-won as Woo Hwi-chul (based on Bull Demon King)
Woo Hwi-chul is the CEO of an entertainment agency. He is known for being a gentle and charismatic businessman, which makes him the object of others’ envy due to his popularity. He has an unhappy past experience with Son Oh-gong, who is now his rival for Jin Sun-mi‘s love.
Lee Seung-gi as Son Oh-gong (based on Sun Wukong)
Due to his mischief and pride, the powerful minor god Son Oh-gong had his power sealed and was exiled to the human world.
Oh Yeon-seo as Jin Sun-mi (based on Xuanzang)
Jin Sun-mi is a real estate CEO who resells houses with very bad luck. She is rich, pretty, and has a determined heart. She is a descendant of Monks that have the power to wipe away demons on earth. Sun-mi has the authority to unseal Oh-gong‘s powers. The duo bickers back and forth and Sun-mi falls in love with him.
Lee Hong-gi as P.K (based on Zhu Bajie)
P.K is a big star signed under Woo Hwi-chul‘s agency. He has the ability to seduce women and suck away their life force.
The drama is written by the Hong sisters who are well known for their works like ‘You’re Beautiful’, ‘My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox’, and ‘Master’s Sun’.
